Client: Smith College
Art Direction: Ronn Campisi Design
Serial Entrepreneur Sramana Mitra created the 1M/1M initiative to help a million entrepreneurs reach a million dollars each in annual revenue and beyond by 2020. For the photo I wanted to find a location that conveyed and idea of nurturing and growth. We found a really cool community garden on top of Bernal Heights for the photograph. Sramana is such a beautiful person and was so gracious with her time and energy. The publication looks amazing.

We were at Cisco for a portrait shoot and this was the view from one of our locations. · 1 October 2011

My Neighbor’s Lemon Tree · 1 February 2011
The light at sunset off the back of our deck is remarkable. For a long time I’ve escaped the Massachusetts winter for a week or two in February by coming to California. And now, as snow pounds our old neighborhood, I can sit out on my deck in my new neighborhood knowing that this is our new home.
To explore and celebrate our new surroundings, I’m shooting new work every day in February and sending out an email with the new work. I’ll follow up with favorites at Leah’s Findings. I’m not sure where things will go.

Jes and Andy got married. (and had a JUMBO party!) · 20 November 2010
When Jes was in grad school she was our babysitter. Then she graduated and worked with troubled teens and at risk families. She would still babysit once a week to “keep her head on straight”. Then we moved.
Two years later Jes emailed a week after Andy proposed and asked if I’d shoot her wedding. As I usually do when people ask me to photograph weddings I gracefully declined and recommended Gigi de Manio (who, as it turns out, was shooting Chelsea Clinton’s wedding on the same date as Jes and Andy’s wedding) and Beth Fitzgerald (my first photo editor at ASU’s State Press, and one of the better photojournalists I’ve worked with. She has gone on to offer brides to be her incredible photographic gifts. I kind of wish Don and I could get married again just to see how Beth would shoot it…)
Jes persisted and we booked her wedding. It’s the fourth wedding I’ve shot. Trevor assisted, which ruled, because Trevor makes everything cool.

Yoga Journal | Sat Bir Khalsa at the Baba Siri Chand Kundalini Yoga. · 15 April 2010
Trevor and I spent the morning with Sat Bir Khalsa at the Baba Siri Chand Kundalini Yoga. The spread looks great in Yoga Journal! It was so great to work with Ron Escobar and Chari Ornett.

And to make to whole experience even better, one of my favorite teachers, Keith Borden makes a cameo right there next to the ‘of’!
Mia Moran and the team at Emtype did an amazing job designing the 2009 Yawkey Foundations Grants Report. I loved shooting this library! · 27 March 2010
Each we work with Mia Moran and the Yawkey Foundations on their annual Grants Report. The report tells the stories of the organizations that it helps.
We spend a few hours with each organization collecting images for Mia to use in her final design. The libraries are so fun to create and I am often humbled by the stories of the subjects. The stories are inspiring and the final piece is always something to be so proud of.
